Defining Success in the Gym
In the gym, success can mean many different things to many different people. For those recovering from injuries or surgeries, success can mean working out in a safe manner with a full range of motion. For those starting from scratch, it can mean establishing a regular routine that will yield results over time. For those training for specific events, marathons or body building competitions, success in the gym will equate to endurance, stamina, muscle definition, and toning.
Determining Success for You
When it comes to deciding what success in the gym will be for you, it’s best you sit down and talk with a certified personal trainer. As the saying goes, two heads are better than one, and oftentimes a personal trainer will be able to offer you insight and guidance you may otherwise might not have considered. Share what you want to get out of the gym, what your expectations are, and then talk to your trainer to gain professional input. Your trainer will not only discuss with you how to achieve those goals, but how to level up to something bigger and better than what you had previously imagined.
Your Biggest Competition
The final piece of the puzzle in consideration of success in the gym is to know how you will be measuring it. No two people are alike and no two fitness goals will be either. Success for each and every one of us is measured by our own personal growth. The starting point is not someone across the room who can bench 380. The starting point is you, your goals, and your dedication, because ultimately it will be you and you alone who will be doing the work. Your biggest competition is yourself and when you are motivated and when you have guidance, truly it won’t be any competition at all.
